The Carthusian “Venia” is a quick full kneeling on both knees and kissing of the edge Choir Desk or Top Surface of the kneeling bench or “Preie-Dieu”. This is probably merciful “shorthand” for an actual bending down and kissing of the floor as an expression of humility.
