Pope to Visit Padre Pio’s Tomb in ‘09

Benedict XVI’s secretary of state says everything is prepared for a papal trip to the tomb of Padre Pio in 2009.

Cardinal Tarcisio Bertone affirmed this today in San Giovanni Rotondo during a Mass that marked the 40th anniversary of the saint’s death, as well as his liturgical feast day.

“Benedict XVI asked me to announce that everything is prepared. The Pope will come to San Giovanni Rotondo in 2009,” said the cardinal to the thousands of faithful gathered for the celebration.

During the homily, Cardinal Bertone recalled the figure of Padre Pio, describing him as “a disciple of Christ who sought no other glory than to love and suffer for him. He was a priest who wanted nothing other than to be consumed in love for God and his brethren.”

“He was a sincere son of the Church, and preferred not to defend himself, even on the most painful occasions, dying to himself in the docile silence of difficult but fruitful obedience,” he added.

Forty years after his death, “Saint Pio is like a channel of water that gushes richly, and at whose source all can drink the fresh water of truth and love that the Lord offers in abundance to all,” added the cardinal.

St. Pio of Pietrelcina is one of the most venerated saints of Italy. A Capuchin friar, he received the stigmata in 1918 and died in 1968. Pope John Paul II canonized him on June 16, 2002.

    please pray for Hayley she goes to canterbury court tomorrow Friday, very frightened distressed that her ex partner Garry wants to take away her only 7 yrs old much treasured daughter Abbie who has been with her mother 7 yrs as Garry walked out didnt help them in all this while married another, causing grief to Abbie and Hayley, he has given a vindictive misleading report about Hayley please place Gods protection over mother and child so that this father doesnt win sway with the Judge and the court tomorrow thankyou. please pray for my health i am crippled with osteo arthritis and nervous disorder social dysfunction phobic with tremors i m so very lonely unable to get married so very unhappy state i really feel poorly please pray for a miracle in our lives as our family have always drawn the short straw throu our lives thankyou amen love doreen

    DEAR PADRE PIO Please pray for my mental health, my wellbeing, my job security, my wife health, and her job security, my mother health and her concerns, my sister Gemma health specially her concerns our protection from harm and unforseen circumtances and rest of the family. Last but not least, please pray for the early release from prison of my wife cousin.Padre Pio you promised 40 years ago that even though you are no longer w/ us you still intercede, healed and perform miracles to those who ask for you prayers and intercession. Please heal us and intercede in our prayer to Blessed Mother Mary Ever Virgin. PADRE PIO, PRAY FOR US.Amen
