Benedict XVI accepted the resignation of Archbishop Harry J. Flynn from the leadership of the St. Paul-Minneapolis Archdiocese. Coadjutor Archbishop John Neinstedt succeeds him.Archbishop Flynn, who turns 75 today, led the archdiocese since 1995.

Archbishop Neinstedt, 61, was made coadjutor of the archdiocese in April 2007. He was born in Detroit and ordained priest for that archdiocese in 1974.

According to statistics from 2004, the Archdiocese of St. Paul-Minneapolis has some 730,000 Catholics, served by 347 diocesan priests and 128 religious priests.
