Vatican Secret Archives: “Processus contra Templarios”
October 4, 2007 |
On October 25 in the Vatican’s Old Synod Hall, the presentation will take place of the “Processus contra Templarios,” a book published by the Vatican Secret Archives on the subject of the Knights Templar, the medieval military-religious order founded in Jerusalem in 1118 and suppressed by Pope Clement V (1305-1314).
According to a communique made public yesterday afternoon, the new volume is “a previously unpublished and exclusive edition of the complete acts of the original hearing against the Knights Templar.” The book, unique of its kind, will have a print run “rigorously limited to 799 copies” and contains the “faithful reproduction of the original parchments conserved in the Vatican Secret Archives.”
The project, the communique concludes, “is part of the series of ‘Exemplaria Praetiosa,’ … the most elaborate and important publication yet undertaken by the Pontifical Archives.”
The new volume will be presented by Archbishop Raffaele Farina S.D.B., archivist and librarian of Holy Roman Church; Bishop Sergio Pagano, prefect of the Vatican Secret Archives, and experts such as the historian Franco Cardini and the archaeologist and author Valerio Massimo Manfredi.”

How do we get a copy?
With such a limited edition print run I do not believe we will be able to have an opportunity to obtain a copy.
The Vatican is to publish a book which is expected to shed light on the demise of the Knights Templar, a Christian military order from the Middle Ages.
The book is based on a document known as the Chinon parchment, found in the Vatican Secret Archives six years ago after years of being incorrectly filed.
The document is a record of the heresy hearings of the Templars before Pope Clement V in the 14th Century.
The official who found the paper says it exonerates the knights entirely.
Prof Barbara Frale, who stumbled across the parchment by mistake, says that it lays bare the rituals and ceremonies over which the Templars were accused of heresy.
In the hearings before Clement V, the knights reportedly admitted spitting on the cross, denying Jesus and kissing the lower back of the man proposing them during initiation ceremonies.
“The Pope was obliged to ask for pardons from the knights - the document absolves them.”

However, many of the confessions were obtained under torture and knights later recanted or tried to claim that their initiation ceremony merely mimicked the humiliation the knights would suffer if they fell into the hands of the Muslim leader Saladin.
The leader of the order, Jacques de Moley, was one of those who confessed to heresy, but later recanted.
He was burned at the stake in Paris in 1314, the same year that the Pope dissolved the order.
However, according to Prof Frale, study of the document shows that the knights were not heretics as had been believed for 700 years.
In fact she says “the Pope was obliged to ask for pardons from the knights… the document we have found absolves them”.
Details of the parchment will be published as part of Processus contra Templarios, a book that will be released by the Vatican’s Secret Archive on 25 October.

Where will it be released first i want a copy because i believe that the Templers never disbanded they are still awaiting the Lords call they are the lords last line of defence in our world today.
Did they disband no they did not they await the calling.
How do i know because as loyal sons of God they could do no less.
In my heart i believe them to be our last line of defence between Good and Evil.
Support them we must help them we have no choice they are all that stands between us and Armageddon they are our only hope and salvation.
In fact they may have been disbanded but by Honor they do exist we must call on them to save the world as we know it because without them we are lost.
Why i know they are still around i do not know but in my prayers i get the feeling help is never far away could it be the Templers only God can say but my Heart tells it is so.
Templers here me Hear my words i want to do what i can to assist you any time any way i can.
I may have gone astray from time to time but i know The lord is my Shepard and i will follow him as he commands me.
This move appears to be a response to the annual campaign by modern-day followers of the Templar tradition.
A letter to the Pope from living descendents of the Templars appeared in the press in 2004: “We shall witness the 700th anniversary of the persecution of our order on 13th October 2007,” the letter said. “It would be just and fitting for the Vatican to acknowledge our grievance in advance of this day of mourning.”
On 25 October 2007, exactly 13 days from the morning of the anniversary, an official document will be released by the Vatican absolving the Knights Templar and confirming their innocence.

I am In line to take my order of the temple this October and i can tell you John Brown the Templars have not disbanded and are alive and very well today in the USA. There are apox 14,000 Knights templar in IL alone. We are all very excided about the news from Rome and I have never seen so much excitement.
If you listen to you HEART you know that the Templars were out of favor because the were to strong for the Papacy to controll. Its all POLITICS!! What made them so strong is the cause for argument.
This is the University of Malta Library. We would like to order two copies.
Is there a pre-publication price and application to obtain this important item? If in the affirmative can we be supplied with information to whom and where to apply?
TWO THINGS WOULD BE NICE:
1) REPRINT THE BOOK IN PAPERBACK FOR VOLUME PUBLIC SALE WORLDWIDE.
2) A LETTER OF APOLOGY FROM THE VATICAN TO INCLUDE IN MY FAMILY HISTORY RECORD.
I just got through reading Berry’s book ” The Templars” great story and very topical to the Papal data. The book opens with the Demolay story, Take a look. One of the goals of the hidden order was to be freed from the heresay charge. This is a big step for Rome after 700 years…… REG
The news that the Vatican will be publishing an edition of Processus Contra Templarios has proven rather popular. There will be a toatl of 800 copies of the text created: one copy is to be presented to Pope Benedict XVI, “while most of the remaining 799 copies of this luxury limited edition have already been reserved by libraries and collectors around the world.”
The book, which is being produced by Scrinium, will be “printed on synthetic parchment, comes complete with a reproduction of the original papal wax seal, and is packaged in a soft leather case together with a scholarly commentary. Each copy will cost just over 5,900 euros ($8,000; £3,925).”
No word yet on if or when a trade edition of this text will be made available.
It is truly astonishing to even contemplate a Crusader being “innocent” but equally astonishing is a charge and judgement of “heresy” when Papal edicts in those days gave absolution to any Christian for killing Muslims. So I am not surprised to find them as innocent of that specific charge but very surprised that the Church of Rome would confess. The notion that there are Knights Templar, that is, of the original and authentic “order” Poor Knights of Jesus Christ and the Temple of Solomon as invisaged at their origination and formally recognized through the script of Bernard of Clairveau is deserving of highest ridicule. Bogus claims to anything but a fraternal bond of a kind or sympathetic to the order or maybe a bit captivated by the mystique surrounding them and their fall in the hands of Phillip the Fair, King of France are to be treated with disbelief. Anyone claiming to derive their association with the order, other than by actually having had an ancestor within it, is not only delusional but does a diservice to the original order and should be ashamed. The Knights Templar are defunct but they live on in other Chivalric Orders most notably the Knights of Malta - Knights of St. John etc - the one with Headquarters in Rome having lost Malta to Napoleon Bonaparte. There are however, stranger things, which are true, namely the existence of orders within the Catholic Church which are not far from their medieval counterparts in mission and disposition. But that is another story. I am happy to see the publication of Processus contra Templarios. Its dissemination to the outside community will not be long in coming. I should add for good measure in respect to religion in general that any true God would scoff at the notion that he/she/it is exclusively represented by any denomination or sect. But to any athiests out there, that does not mean that there is no God. Revel in your journey. The destination will follow. Goodness is in right action. Have a nice day.
