Rebirth

God has created the human soul
like an immense jewel box
which is able to hold God Himself,
in order that the person might become like Him
by means of the good deeds which must break up
the hardness and the disharmony of decadent nature.
It is preceisely the aim of the monastic art
to lead us to discover the treasure
which we bear in our own hearts,
giving us a new birth in the Spirit,
through prayer and the struggle against vain thoughts.
